Client needs to migrate its NT4 domains to AD (Active Directory) in order to have continued support from Microsoft (NT support ended in 2005). All applications that may depend on domain authentication need to be tested to ensure continued functionality during and after the migration.
The application testing effort will verify that the applications in use by the profit centers are compatible/interoperable with the AD domain security environment (or approved waivers/exceptions created for remediation after the primary migration effort).
The major steps associated with the Application Testing effort are Preparation, Test, Remediate and Certify.
Responsibilities:
Working at the Houston site with members of the Application Testing team, this resource will be working in a team with the migration test lab environment. Duties include:
Load base Operating System installs of Windows NT4 Server, Windows 2000 Server, Windows 2003 Server and Windows XP
Load additional software such as MS SQL Server, Oracle, Sybase, MS Office, etc.
Coordinate with Application SME (Subject Matter Expert) for the installation of any remaining application related elements
Support testers during the testing process
Perform fault analysis to determine the root cause of authentication failures (configuration errors, network infrastructure errors)
Participate in the review, assignment, prioritization and tracking of all problems identified during testing and certification
Perform triage on identified problems to determine the internal agencies responsible for corrective action
Track corrective action, including schedule and retesting
Recommend workarounds when applicable, and assess the impact on testers and support staff.
NT domain administration and AD (Active Directory) administration experience is required. The resource is required to have experience with:
Create and troubleshoot domain trusts between NT and AD
Know and define differences between types of NT and AD groups and their scopes
Know and define the uses for Organizational Units (OU) and their scopes
Know the affect of AD group policies
This resource shall have at least 5 years experience building and deploying software applications. Microsoft certifications under the Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) program (e.g. MCDST and MCAD) are highly desired, with an emphasis on Windows NT, 2000, and XP workstation environments. They will have strong diagnostic and application troubleshooting skills as it relates to package deployment in a Microsoft Windows XP environment. The ability to isolate the root causes of application installation, launch, and functional faults so that authentication issues can be separated from all other problems is critical.
The selected resource must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and have the ability to balance competing technical perspectives to creatively solve problems. Interpersonal skills, particularly when working with multiple team leaders, is essential.
This resource shall have:
Extensive experience installing, testing, troubleshooting, and documenting software applications, including Web and .NET applications. This experience must include the Windows NT/2000, and XP operating system environments.
Experience installing and troubleshooting database applications (e.g. Access, SQL, Sybase, Oracle) in a mixed Windows XP and Novell Netware environment is highly desired.
This resource shall have a working knowledge and understanding of PC and network architectures, operating systems, and software applications. This knowledge shall be based on a broad variety of different technical assignments in order to acquire highly analytical software troubleshooting skills. General knowledge areas would include:
